Here are five ways to ease the mental load and make your life easier over the next couple of months:
1 – Tick child care off your to do list

This time of year is prime for accessing some extra education and care, depending on how it fits in with your family’s schedule.
In an ideal world, you’ll be able to tick off the shopping, the planning and those pesky life-administration tasks that always get pushed to the bottom of the list. 4 – Buy (and wrap) presents now
If your family celebrates Christmas, why not set yourself a budget and get buying some presents throughout the year?
As soon as you purchase them, wrap immediately and stick a post-it on top, reminding yourself what the present is, then hide in a bag for your child. If you have more than one child, assign one bag per child to hold their presents – you wouldn’t want the Bluey plushie getting muddled up with the LEGO would you?
This saves the last-minute Christmas Eve rush of frantically trying to get presents all wrapped up and under the tree, leaving you with more energy to decide on what snacks Santa and the reindeer might prefer…
5 – Try to out-source end of year lunches or dinner
Life is that much easier when you’re not battling the December crowds to try to pick up food for an enormous meal, only to get home and spend hours cooking for extended family.
If someone else is offering to host end-of-year celebrations, go ahead and take them up on it, without succumbing to any guilt about accepting the invitation. Or if you celebrate Christmas as more of a low-key event, bite the bullet and book in for a feast at your local favourite hotel, RSL or surf club.
You can spend the cash you’ve saved on the giant Christmas ham by putting it towards an extra-special meal for the family. And even the kids will have fun enjoying a brand-new experience (and potentially a new family tradition…).
